For We Nigerians, the struggle of trying to balance a working life and a working out life, is always a challenge task especially to an employer in Nigeria.  We are quick to dislike the hard part of life, or the means of achieving a certain goal,while making it easy for us to always picture the happy part of life. Nigerians have over the years allowed some religious leaders tell them that “when they are not living a life of abundance and wealth, then it is because they are living a life of sin” According to them,  sinners don’t live a life of insufficiency. *Stop already*

We are humans. And as humans, we will see the good and bad side of life. Stop believing that a Christian will only see the good. That is no true. The bad experiences are made lighter for us as Christians when we believe in Christ. That doesn’t mean the knowledge of Christ eliminates it. So, always have a plan for everything not just the good part of life, even in the work out session.

For example, when Nigerian people are told to find time to workout while they spend their  whole life trying to make a living, they are always very quick to tell you that they are not robots, saying there is no way they  can find time to work out amongst their whole responsible of work and family, not knowing that the very moment you start to work out, you automatically get yourself an extra strength to go about carrying out your tasks at work and home.

They are quick to yell “It is impossible“. But if in a case where your body breaks down during work, you see that this people immediately find themselves some time to go to all their doctor’s appointments, all the required tests, and eventually all the bed rests and admissions in the hospital.

why are you waiting for it to get to that state before you actually take a decision to pay attention to yourself? When the doctor himself tells you that your situation has gotten to an  extent where your life depends on you exercising, and losing some weight.

To Practise what I preach,  I am now going to put myself to the test of starting my work while I am expected to resume my Job before 9am.

And Before 8am, I have designed and planned myself to have my prayer, have my 30 minutes jogging, have my 45 minutes cardio, and then a quick warm bath, and a makeup, (no breakfast ) and then leave for work by exactly 8am.

This 2018, I don’t want to preach what is hard to practice, so I will put myself to test before asking others to do it.

I will keep you guys updated in this case, obviously it will require discipline and dedication. And those are things that I have.

ObyOrijitips: Steps to getting Comfortable at a big event.

Most times when people who consider themselves ordinary are previledged enough to attend parties with the high and mighty, the famous, the influential, and the celebrities In our society, they tend to disappear into the background, feeling intimidated, and out of place, because they don’t think they are good enough, or famous enough, or even worth the privilege. Honey you are, and that is normal to feel out of place.

The surprising thing here is that, Most times this idea is in your head, guys. If I have learnt anything with these celebrities, it is that no matter how many times they attend a red carpet invent in their lives,  they always feel nervous at these red carpet events. Every single one of them suffers from insecurities, and distorted self confidence. If you don’t know that, you might think they see themselves as perfect.

To get comfortable at a big  Event, you must get comfortable from home. When you are home getting dressed for an event, especially for the event you haven’t attended before, the rule of going for your most comfortable outfit,  should be applied.

Most times, we notice that People who look good on a daily basis, end up looking less good looking at a special event.This is because, they automatically assume that they need to outdo themselves, by  taking fashion risks. This most times, end up not looking half as good as they did normally. Don’t be deceived guys, this is the first step to ruin, especially if you are dressing yourself.

             Steps to becoming comfortable…                       

We talk about your preparation from head to toe. First of all, go light on the makeup. This because It is MORE comfortable to know that you are not trying too much to fit in, and end up having to look like a masquerade when a bright light is cast on your face. This is especially if you are attending it for the very first time, where you don’t know the schedule, and ways things are done there.

It will be great to use a matte lipstick, as that is know to simplify your look, and enable your stale mouth situation, while making you look super beautiful. Oily lipsticks that are shiny and loud, will end up melting off your lips, staining your teeth, having white lines during stale mouth situation, staining people’s clothes when you hug them because you are a bit nervous trying to seem nice by smiling unnecessarily frequent, and then needing to go to the lady’s room to wild you teeth.

Go simple with the hair, if necessary, with what you are use to. Don’t go with too much full and all over the place fake fair. Try your natural hair, or a simple flat, fake hair(Wigs).

Jewelry shouldn’t be big bold and fake. If they are big and real, then super nice. But if you are not in possession of real (gold or silver) jewelry, go with small and fake. That doesn’t really draw negative attention to it. You just rock your stuff honorably.

Clothes should be comfortable and not wild.mremember you will be sitting, so don’t try to be like the stars and end up doing more than them, by putting up a very unconsealing clothes. Shoes should be very comfortable. Because you don’t know how long you would stand got one reason or the other, so you can’t start walking like you are constipated in a party you have dreamt of your whole life.

Have mint gum/sweet, or mint spray in your clutch bag for when you start to feel like your mouth stinks, from closing up your mouth for a long time.

Let us remember,  that you might be new to the circle, but you are never the only one nervous at the event.

Looking through binoculars, we saw a white form lying on the ground but could not quite tell what it was. We stared for a long time until it lifted its head and we realized it was a polar bear that looked very weak. We decided to go on land to better assess the situation and quietly situated our cameras behind one of the sheds, as not to disturb him and waited while he slept, some 500 feet away. After a while, he slowly got up and laboriously started walking towards us. It was then that we realized just how terrible his condition was. He looked emaciated, with muscles atrophied to the point he could barely hold himself up as he searched for something to eat. From an old oil drum, he pulled a piece of trash that looked like burnt foam and started chewing on it. Our team was heartbroken and struggled to process what we were witnessing. Ingredients For Native Soup    

. Uziza Leaves

. Uziza seed

. Prawn or Shrimps

. Stock fish

. Dry fish

. Pepper

PREPARATION                        

— Wash and spice beef and stock fish with salt,seasoning, and pepper, allowing it to cook till meat is tender.

— Wash and boil cocoyam til it is soft. Bring down and pound till it makes a smooth paste.

— Add crayfish, palm oil,Pomo,dry fish, prawn/shrimps to the boiling pot of meat for 3-5 minutes.

— Add cocoyam in scoops to the boiling pot of meat.

— As the cocoyam dissolves, add water to your desired consistency.

— pound and sieve Uziza seed, and then pour into the pot.

— Wash and add periwinkle into the pot.

— Finally, wash, slice and add to your pot, allow to simmer for three minutes before dropping the    pot.

— Consume with the swallow of your choice. #nativesoup

But by now, I want to belief by now that we all have resumed our various exercises. if you haven’t resumed your workout yet, you definitely know you are late now.

piling up the weight for a long time and expecting to take it off in a day, brings the space for lack of trust for system.  Start as soon as possible, take away the Christmas weight you have put on. While making the New Years resolution, please involve a healthy life. People have procrastinated the last year, I simply hope that we don’t repeat it this be new year. So please ladies and gentlemen, let us all put together the possibility that we have always doubted in ourselves this year, back to the its  running wheel.

Take away every doubt that you have suffered this year, take the disappointments, take the broken hearts, take the business that didn’t succeed, take all the failed plans, put them behind you, dust off the negativity, and move on with speed like you have never been hurt, and go get he new year, grab it by its wings and fly with it. We all are super excited to have this years Christmas arrive. Words can sparsely explain the excitement filled in the hearts of the adults and children of the world. Some being so naughty, and others pretending to be nice while being intensely mean. I for one will be interested in the naughty peopl if I am made Santa for a day.  *just saying*

Christmss in Nigeria is known for one thing. If we are being sincere, it is  Food, food and food. And for every  one who has been good enough to maintain an Ok body through out the year, Christmas is always a time of trials and  temptation. You have relatives and family members who you haven’t seen in a while, friends and siblings who have the choicest gist for you concerning people you all know. In the midst of all these, you are completely going to let down your guard, and eat things that you are not suppose to, because everything will look incredible delicious and attractive to you when you are happy to be in the midst of those you love. So how do we help our selves in this trial periods of Christmas.

Helping the belly

For one, we will try not  eat all day and all night just because there is good every where.

. When in the midst of people who will make you forget your weight consciousness, always remember that heavy food consumption ends with the day. Which means that it ends when the day ends. When night falls, do not let any heavy food into you mouth. Go for liquids, fruits, and light snacks, tea and bread.

.My Nigerian compatriot should specifically be mindfully with the constant intake of Eba and delicious  Nigerian soups.

. Do not completely neglect your workout routine. Instead of letting family members distract you, you should see them as an encouraging factor. They should join you in your workout, not stopping you from doing the right thing. But remember,  Simple ones first. Exercise to start with, are the easy one though.

Simple belly workouts

First step: Lay on your back, stretch out your legs and have your Hands by your side.

Lift your pair of legs (both legs) from the floor half way up, forming an angle with your upper body, forming a capital letter L. And take them back to the ground together immediately.

Lift Both legs and drop them  back down 20 times, which means counting up and down as one, for 20 times. Touching your toes as the come up to your face. The left hand will touch the right leg’s toes when it comes up, while the right hand will touch the left toe’s when it comes up.

Do five batches of  20 lifts (up and down = 1 count), making it 100 counts.

20 up and down =1 batch

100 up and down= 5 batches

REMEMBER, Do it 5 times, which is 5 batches

This is called the Touch your toes move, and it is very efficient in flattening your tummy. This is because it flexes your belly muscle, keeping them active, when they grind the fat away in the process. So this is simple and efficient. If you are determined enough, you can do even more than hundred counts, and probably do it morning and night.

Invite your mother, daughter, sister, friend, cousins, and so on, to come join you for some moral support. You might even make a bet just to keep their interest on it. Place a bet to get their attention. Feel free to tell me how it went, cos I will appreciate some pictures And stories.

Oby Oriji fitness: I changed my workout routine after a year, and here is the effect.

Hi guys,  how is the day going? So I am revealing the facts rant I have finally changed my workout routine. I have been using a downloaded video of Insanity workout . This was gotten from the wowy site where workout addicts like myself get paid to upload their every workout videos, which I was never able to do for some reasons best known to me. Using the insanity Cardio was rejuvenating for me, It helped me stretch, feel fit, and get health(physically and mentally). But the problem with it, was that I didn’t lose weight as much and fast as  expected. I still had my bulgy belly even after workout was done on a daily basis. I even resulted to doing it morning and evening in my room, trying to increase my metabolism which I thought was the problem why I wasnt losing as much as I should.  It didn’t happen, probably because I am a rice addict and being a typical Nigerian, I love to eat my high carbohydrate, and high oil in the stew meal.

But a couple of months ago, I decided to try out something new, since I love to learn everyday.  I saw a cool chic with the best body, belly and move on Instagram and decided to study her every move because I wanted that kind of body. Now I am not exercising to look muscular, because I know some people think every girl who workouts will end up looking  like a man with flat chest  and ass. I mean yes. You are basically taking fat out of you entire body.

I got introduced to running by my sister afte she decided to go back to exercise, and for the very  first day, I could feel my heart pumping so loud that it immediately got me feeling faint every though I did that all the time. I ran and did my haut 5×100 for a month, and I immediately felt the difference. The sweat, the morning breeze against my skin, and then the instant result. I could feel, see and hear the testimony. I immediately decided that I will be running for as long as my body can take it.

Fotunately for me, my body can actually take it and more, and this is the result of it. The and the photos.

The surprising thing I saw people do on the road today.

In as much as we all want to lead a healthy life, there is always the need to trade with caution. After my run   Earlier  today, I was opportune to visit the busy main road, now crowded with cars and school kids and even workers,  where I saw a hand full of individuals like myself, running. while they ran on the road meant for cars just because the pedestrian walk way was flooded as it was being used by other people. And since they don’t want to run into anyone, they would rather run on the busy road, expecting vehicles to avoid them while they run. That is a selfish and high dangerous thing to do.

The danger involved here, can never be over emphasized. When people run early in the morning, even without having to disturb the road meant for cars, they are exposed to robbery, rape, accident, and fall. Now this has been known to be the regular stories coming from runners. But when you go as far as running on the way meant for vehicles, then you are doubling your already known risks. So please guys, don’t expect drivers to protect you when you can’t protect yourself by running on the path meant for pedestrians. Protecting yourself was the reason why you woke up in the first place to run. Losing weight and stay alive was the aim of your exercise, So please don’t contradict yourself by placing your body in a place that it can be gravely harmed.

Run on the pedestrian walk way. And if you can do that, then please engage in some kind of exercise that doesn’t require the road. Stay safe while living healthy. You can run in your neighborhood, you can run in your compound, and you can run on your street. It doesn’t have to be the road. There is the option for cardio, and gym. Those too can be safe for you while you try to get your goal body. Stay safe honeys .

If you notice that I used the phrase”hitting the gym”.  Gym these days to so many have become photography studio, a good place for beautiful make belief pictures which will fetch you a bag full of likes on Instagram and other social networks. Most times it is not even the fact that the pictures are likable, it is the fact that the aim of the gaming is completely defeated. When you are not aware that you can do all that without having any aspect suffer.

Now we will look at the pros and Cons, and even how to do all these while maintaining a steady workout.

Do you know you can take super cute pictures, fetch as much likes as you can, and still workout the very right way? This is the right way to do that.

. Going to the gym exposes you to smooth workout equipments,  super cool workout buddies and a load of distractions. The other day while I was at a gym, I was too excited to even let myself get distracted. I was eager to take on new moves from the coach, I did more than the instructor asked, I extended my time, I rejected rest periods, and even involved my own moves. I never take water while I workout, so That didn’t have a Hold on me. I saw ladies cut their workouts just to go sip on a bottle water and visit the Internet. Some even go as far as having an intense gist right in the middle of the workout with any one whose may is close by. And then it became clear to me , that the level of distraction involved in the gym is very high, and there are ways to avoid them.

Ways to Avoid them.

. If you know how chatty you can get when ever you find yourself in the midst of people, so chatty that it basically distracts you from achieving things, Then you will have to master your trade in the house before hitting the gym. This is because the moment you get really interested workouts,  putting in your health and well being before aimless chats and gossips right in the house where you have you family and friends, then it is harder for strangers and acquaintances to distract you when you are in the gym.

. Set a goal for yourself every morning before you leave the house to the gym, because  if you don’t know the extent of workout your body can with stand everyday, then you are automatically more interested in showing off your outfits and reuniting with friends in the gym, than burning your own Carbs.  You tell yourself the exact type of workout, the body part that is targeted, the duration of the chosen workout. You alone, not your workout buddy, decide what you must achieve for that morning or evening. Having a buddy for workout will badly affect your achievement, so learn to push yourself farther and harder for that body.

. Picture taking time: When you put your feet down, and tell yourself that workout time is not picture or video time, unless someone is ready to help you with that, then you will constantly cut your goal short to have a perfect video or picture.  Before starting you workout, take your pictures or videos, buy yourself a phone holder, and set it to g et you full body while you workout. After setting it, Just forget it, and concentrate on the work. If you want to get pictures of your post workout, with all the sweat, and wrinkled clothes, then do that after you are done, with pride and satisfaction,

. Chatting with gym goers: when  you arrive you gym, take a little time to greet, and make small talks with people who you want to exchange pleasantries with. Time yourself, don’t give too much or too little time for that, five minutes is fine. Greet them have the little talk with them. The moment gym time commences, then that is it. Don’t give room for chats and distractions. They will try to talk to you, but will start to respect and even imitate you when you ignore all distractions when the time for workout starts. The distraction agents will always be there, it is not left for you to reject their invite. All conversations can happen before and after the workout , not during.

Dont go asking people where they got their workout gears, and waist trainers and even sneakers while they are trying to burn fat, that goes to show your last of seriousness in the gym. There is time for everything, and people can tell when you don’t Joke with your time. They might not be bold enough to tell you, but they will start to respect you and aspire to be like you. When it is time to help your body, stop complaining or whining, and stop letting yourself be an agent of distraction to people who have come to make themselves better. The girls you see with awesome bodies, have the concentration of the cat family. Join them in that.

Good morning guys, wondering how my morning routine went this morning?

I woke up very early this morning with the intent to run as early as possible, because the estate security guys take special pleasure watching ladies run while the sunrises *for obvious reasons*, I still don’t know what made me come on Instagram before leaving, but all I know is that I ended up spending 20 MINUTES!!!! Watching @jidenna and @rotimimusic plantain and butterscotch videos 6 times. Let’s just say, The Security guys were all smiles this morning when we jogged. I am still not sure whose fault it is 😕😕.

Oby Oriji blog Fitness: The Pros and Cons of having a work out buddy.

So guys,how was your weekend? Or should I say, how is the new week going? Did you work out or the cold mean hands of Monday morning took your attention? You know what they say in the workout world.
“Never miss a Monday”. Well that was the reason why I woke up early enough this morning, looking for my workout buddies, one was preparing to travel, and the other one was preparing to have a walk of shame. I became my own motivation and inspiration that I got up, got ready and went ahead to run my 10 laps. But the most important thing is that I noticed my belly fat went intact, so I started my deadly 5x100s this morning and almost passed out. Reason being that it stabs you belly,immediately showing how efficient It is. My 5x100s consist of:

1. 100 Toe Touches
2. 100 Crunch claps
3. 100 legs lifts
4. 100 dynamic planks
5. 100 bicycle crunches. Find photos below for this moves.
It burnt me like crazy. With that said I will like to weight the pros and cons of having a workout buddy.

Pros:
For a person newly on a weight loss journey, they require a lot of motivation form a workout buddy. It is simply difficult for them to do it all by themselves because they are feeling the urge to go back to their old ways of life, but with the help of a workout buddy, they get consistent with the healthy life. So it is safe to conclude that a workout buddy is simply most important to the new convert who thinks exercise is torture to the human soul, when it is in fact the most beautiful thing.

Cons: Now on the other hand, when an already motivated fit fam, has a lazy or new to the fit life workout buddy, then he or she is bound to disrupt your consistency. They have all kinds of reason to prevent them from working out which will definitely affect you enthusiasm. They will have the lamest excuse not to join you. Now if you are not a determined fellow, you will find your self feeling as lazy as the actual lazy person.

Take for example, this morning, my workout buddies couldn’t join me because one had spent the night at her boyfriend’s and was about having her drive of shame while I had finished working out, while the other was on vacation. If I was completely dependent on my workout buddies for motivation for every time I needed to workout, I definitely would not be as consistent as I am with my healthy workout life.

Lesson of the day is: In this life, you will be required to be your own motivation. Don’t always rely on people for your strength, most times it doesn’t come. Not even your family members will always support you. You are enough, you are strong, you are a star in the making.

Oby Oriji Blog Fitness: My Sunday Morning workout Experience.

So Guys, this Sunday morning at about 7am, I went out for my run. While my running partner was too attached to youtube video with #patriciabright and #thatigbogirl to come exercise with me, I simply refused to be converted into changing my mind, because I was eager to blog that early in the morning.

Normally I don’t love to go out by 7am, I love to go out 6:20am, because ever since the security guys realise that I run every morning, they wake up early enough to see boobs and ass giggle. But since I am speedily becoming flat, they always look out for my neighbour instead. So I now go early to prevent the satisfaction.

I ran my 10 laps and perspired to my satisfaction. I instantly felt lighter. I don’t know if it is my psychology or do I instantly get lighter for real? Well this was how soaked my shirt was afterwards.

Did you exercise today? I will like to know about it. We can always have a challenge on the weekends. Feel free to reach out lovelies, because I woke the security guy up to take this pictures just for you. My own security is not called ‘Jacob’ like some other peoples’. I have always loved the bane Jacob, I can’t believe someone is turning it into a joking name though.

How Nigerian Billionaires source for energy to sustain themselves.

Fortunately for us, Gone are the days when Nigerian men showed their wealth through the size of their pot belly, like we have always known as kids, Back then when  life centered on the saying that “Pot belly is an evidence of good living”. That statement alone, has single handedly caused more death than Ebola has caused in Nigeria. People loved to look wealthy with luscious skin and bloated body. While the men were told to to show their achievements by the size of their belly, who were advised to have a big belly because it would enable their wrappers sit right in the waist. Skinny women were referred to as poor and I deficient since their wrappers will always look like they were handed down to them.

I was opportune to have a quick chat with a prominent Nigerian, on how they get to attend all these meetings all day long, make all these business decisions, and handle all these employees and money, travel around the world for business. He told me that the initial key obviously will be to Pray, to plan, to work hard, and finally to EXERCISE..

He said they (The rich),  automatically feel better  and stronger when they sweat out their stress. I was not surprised to learn that the wealthy people of this world are extremely busy with making money, but still find the time to  workout so much. Because the brain, the heart, and entire body system, get blood flow which leads to an efficient work flow. Every Rich man in Nigeria nowadays, is thriving to be as slender as the average person, and this is the reason  why their bodyguards are now  being mistaken for the boss.

While we sleep, these men work, while we are awake, they equally work. So if exercise has been named the main source of the energy, and is working out well for them, then why are you and I, not doing the same to be like these wealthy people? I see people who don’t lift a pin in the name of workout, complain about all kinds of pain, and tell you that they can’t find time to workout because of their 9-5 jobs. when I look at their counterparts who always workout, it is incredibly clear who is living a better life. Now for an employee, you might not have the time to work out everyday like I do, but you can try weekends and every other day. Burn the fat and tell me how it felt. You will realize how much energy you will get from nowhere. The “I am tired” statement will drastically diminish without you clearly realizing it. You job descriptions will be exceeded, once again without you knowing it.  Feel free to comment what our think. What is your own reason for not working out? It could be due to a surgery, or delivery, I will like to know.

My phobia for running dates all the way back to my primary school days in the coldest state of Nigeria. Jos Plateau state housed My awesome St. Pirans Church school Jos. It was pretty special to me, because as an Anglican child, I had a slot in an Anglican missionary school, which it something churches are forgetting to do these days. The climate of  JOs Plateau state has been admired by the entire Country people. Some  have summoned up enough courage to  go see for themselves, while the rest have only relied on the personal testimonies of those who have been there, and come back to tell others that it snows in Jos. Plateau was and still is a beautiful,happy and special part of my memory Back then as a kid. How we all knew at the back of our head that as evening draws near, we were always meant to go have a cardigan on, going to school always required a cardigan, even if the sun was out.  The Classifications back then were based on some of these factors :  after  classification based on your age, then that of your class, then came your sport house I.e The color of the house you have been placed in.  I was in 💚Green house back then guys, which we called the ‘super super house’💪💪.

Now in green house and the interhouse sports was coming up. Every pupil was meant to gather according to their house to have practise for sports and games for every category no matter your age. It was always a colourful view, having red,blue,green, and yellow groups of kids gathered. Parents always wore a proud smile from sad to ear,  whenever their kids were part of this beautifully colored sport groups.

Because I had  four older siblings who  had passed through that same school before me, being the last child of the house, goals were already set by my elder ones in different wards of the school before I got there.

Now I had an elder sister who was an excellent runner,  very excellent runner if I do say so myself . She did everything sports and won gold for her house in the entire 6 years she spent in primary school and secondary school. So when I arrived, they automatically assumed that the running gene was in every member of the family, *They hadn’t met me yet*.  They didn’t know that my Mum only passed down her incredible sprinting skills to my Big sister. I was a hyperactive kid, which made it easier for them to misconstrue it for an ability to run track. I mean don’t get me wrong, I played football a lot, played games, but had a huge problem with track.

So  on that day, While we were practising for games and sports, I was surprisingly paired with a senior for a ‘filling the bottle race’. It was a game where you were handed an empty bottle to run to a far away bowl filled with water, to fill the bottle with water using nothing but your hands. I was her understudy, which meant that all the attention was placed on her. I simply hid behind her because in my mind. she was definitely going to do the race for the house, So I assumed.

But on that faithful day, this young girl who happen to be my senior then, wore a sport skirt instead of a sport short. UNBELIEVABLE!!!  I thought….Being the understudy who was wearing  a sport short! The attention was simmediately placed on me. Being a prestigious Christian school, the young senior was immediately replaced with the understudy, which happen to be me 😬 😢. I have had no practise, no skill, no confidence in my legs. I made to protest but before I knew it, I had my right foot on the starting line as they shouted “On your marks,”. When the shot gun was fired, I was 3 seconds behind my competitors recovering from the loud gun sound. Ladies and gentlemen, before I knew it,out of the four racers, I was the 4th person to get to the finish line in Gigiantic SHAME. Even after being the last racer, I  Still had a half filled bottle, while the winners all had their’s filled. My house mistress in disappointment, threw shades at me right from end of the race till Walked up to her corner, to get a scoop  glucose. People stared at me, and I looked down till I got to the toilet for some quiet time. And that right there, dampened my interest to ever run again.

Not until my adulthood now, where working out feels like paradise. The dripping sweat, the rushing adrenaline and then the banging body result made me a believer. right now, I am beginning to run short distances again. But this time around, just for my fitness, not representing any house or group of people. Just me, and my heart.
